North Florida Soaring Society

The North Florida Soaring Society (NFSS) is a non-profit club providing safe flying facilities and equipment for its members, encouraging their education and development as competent and safety-conscious aviators through ground and flight training in sailplanes. The club promotes soaring locally and nationally and operates most weekends, weather permitting. They offer educational flights for beginners, putting them in the front seat of their aircraft for a takeoff behind a tow plane, soaring above the Jacksonville area, and landing at Herlong Airport. Membership provides access to flight instruction and a community focused on safety and the joy of flight, highlighting gliders as an affordable aviation option due to the absence of engines or fuel.
